Our Story & Philosophy
Social studies for curious minds and adventurous spirits!
Launched in 2018 by Annie Wilcox, Globally Taught offers ready-to-use social studies resources that engage students in the exploration of history, economics, geography, civics, and culture. Dissatisfied with her school’s social studies curriculum, Annie began designing her own to take students on a trip around the world, from her classroom. Today, Globally Taught sells curriculum in 45 countries, and opens the door for teachers and students to a rich world of exploration and curiosity.
Say goodbye to snooze-worthy social studies with our engaging curriculum that teaches twenty-first century skills and inspires students to tackle the world’s complex problems. Explore the world from your classroom with Globally Taught.

Our Pedagogy & Philosophy
In the following sections, we will introduce the pedagogy and philosophy behind our social studies curriculum and how it fits into the growth and development of the whole child.
Social studies is a hands-on subject. Concepts aren’t retained through boring worksheets. Our style of teaching helps students build a deeper understanding of social studies by exploring, debating, and investigating instead of just memorizing facts. It also connects concepts to real-world issues and develops critical thinking skills through analysis, questioning, and problem-solving.
Our resources apply social studies concepts to current, global issues and real events, not just abstract ideas. The goal is to spark curiosity about the wider world and help students understand complex global problems and learn how to fix them.
Beyond knowing content, our curriculum emphasizes building skills, like AI and data literacy, critical thinking, respectful discussion and debate, and a curiosity for lifelong learning. Building these skills prepares students to enter a rapidly changing workforce and to solve the complex problems of the twenty-first century.
We recognize that teachers have limited time, and schools often cut social studies in favor of other subjects. We design lessons that are ready to use that include everything a teacher needs to teach the concept. Our curriculum also tackles literacy and math standards, so teachers feel like they aren’t sacrificing one subject over another. Students can apply key math and literacy skills while exploring economics, geography, history, culture, and government.
While data literacy and STEM skills are an important focus in schools, we know that soft skills are still critical. Our philosophy encourages students to explore new cultures, ideas, and ways of thinking. Our lessons take a multidisciplinary approach, where students learn through reading, discussing, debating, and creating, to build the communication and teamwork skills necessary to succeed in life.
