Please note that Georgia’s State Standards reference ‘Southwest Asia’ but we use the United Nations Statistics Division’s official term ‘West Asia.’ The regions are identical. We also include the 'Stan' countries in Central Asia.
For 5th-8th Grade:
This unit has been based upon the compilation of many state standards, including Georgia’s Social Studies Standards for 7th Grade. The articles and activities are designed for a 7th-grade reading level. Upper middle school students should be able to complete the activities independently. Lower middle school students should read and analyze the articles as a group.
Pedagogy
This is a complete unit. The lesson plans are detailed, but give you flexibility to add, adjust, or remove activities depending on the time you have to complete each lesson. The unit includes more than you need for students to grasp each concept.
